Description:

Included are 176 cars from the 1996 Winston Cup Season. In most cases there are multiple schemes and/or variants for the drivers. This includes variants due to driver changes, as well. Meticulous attention to detail was the goal. I’ve taken hundreds of screen shots, watched every minute of every race in 1996 (including some practice and qualifying videos) to ensure the the logos you see on the cars are as close as can be to at least one weekend that car had raced. Additionally, with the help of Dave Moody, logos have been identified that otherwise may have been lost in time. If you have any questions on any particular car, feel free to contact me at any of my social media pages. I’d be happy to share my research and in many cases, also my artwork.

Each car comes with full ratings & pit crews/suits. The ratings system is initially based off Ethone’s 2008 Formula v2.1. From there, modifications were made to permit drivers who had no ratings to still be capable of making from a field filler standpoint. This includes all the DNQ cars that are included in this set.

Notes: Each car is built with a standard speedway design for the airflow on the noses. I decided not to try to mimmick the noses of the cars I recreated for consistency reasons. This also goes for names on the name rails. In most cases in the 90’s, when a driver would substitute for an injury, the original driver’s name would often remain on the rails. For the sake of identification, I opted to put the names of the drivers actually driving the car on the doors/dashboard.

Special Thanks:

Thanks to the Godfather, Dave Moody, for assisting me in contacting drivers to identify some of the more difficult areas of certain cars. Thanks also to my significant other, Sammi Gruman, who did a fair amount of the artistic work on any comic or cartoon logos. Special thanks also to the many Facebook groups that have helped me out, such as ‘NASCAR and Race Car Modeling’, ‘NASCAR Modeling’, ‘NASCAR Pictorial Archive’, ‘Classic NASCAR (1948-2005)’, and ‘Winston Cup History 1971-2003’.

The Motive:

In July of 2021, my girlfriend and I lost a pet that was very important to us. I decided I wanted to run a for fun season in NR2003 with the 1996 cars on Splash & Go’s mod for the mid to late 90’s cars, just to take up some of my free time. After a short search I saw one did not exist, so instead, I shifted my focus to painting the cars for myself, instead. As I hit the 43rd car, I decided instead to just keep going and fill out the rest of the season. 4 months later almost to the day, the set was completed on November 25, 2021.

When I initially started, I wasn’t going to release the cars. This whole project was essentially a therapy session. As such, there’s a couple of contingencies that could have stood to have been a wee bit more accurate in sizing/color, but these are extremely minor things I opted not to bother to switch after getting 80+ cars in. A normal person would never notice these things, but for those of you out there who are just like me, it might catch your eye. As for any main sponsors, secondary sponsors, literally everything else, it is as accurate as I can possibly be.

Other Car Sets by Dr. Noise Paints & Custom Diecasts:

2012 La Crosse Speedway Late Models – Bill Martin / Dr. Noise

This carset is for the LMPV2 Late Model Mod. In 2012, in my 3rd year of full time racing at the La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway, I started to compile photos to re-create the track in NR2003. While creating the track, I also created the carset for that year’s 2012 late model season.

2012 La Crosse Speedway Sportsmen Cars – Bill Martin / Dr. Noise

This is the car set for the US Pits Aero88 mod. This is the division I raced in from 2010 through 2017. There’s a lot of great memories I have from that season and a lot of friends made. It was really special to capture the season and be able to relive it to some capacity for many years to come.
